
ADSS (All dielectric self-supporting optical cable) consists of single-mode or multimode optical fibers which are protected by loose tubes. Loose tubes are made of high modulus plastic and filled with water blocking compound. Loose tubes (and filler rod) are stranded around the non-metallic central strength member to form a compact and circular cable core, and the gap in the cable core is filled with water blocking compound. For some long-span optical cables, a layer of polyethylene inner sheath is applied between the cable core and the aramid yarn layer to provide additional protection.
